Our Journey

Tracing the evolution of career development and student empowerment at the University of Peradeniya.

2001 - 2004

The Humble Beginnings

Career Development was officially recognized as an integral part of academic training. The unit began with a part-time Director and operated out of a single office room at the WUS student center, shared with the Alumni Association.

2005 - 2015

Full-Time Operations

The CGU became fully functional with two trained Career Guidance Counsellors and appointed its first full-time Director, who served for 10 continuous years. The unit began formally offering both psychological counselling and career advising.

2016 - 2017

Strategic Alignment

With a new Director appointed, operations were heavily aligned with UGC guidelines. A Career Guidance Advisory Board (chaired by the VC) and a Faculty Coordinators Forum were established. The "Robarosiya" student society was also launched to train student leaders.

2018

Expanding Student Reach

The unit expanded its direct connection to students by establishing a students' ambassador network, appointing an ambassador for each Department. The CGU also initiated a Gavel Club under its roof to enhance leadership and communication skills.

2021

Academic Integration

A major milestone was reached when a formal Certificate Course on Career Development was offered for the very first time in the university's history.
