Inter-University Financial Literacy Quiz Competition 2026
The Career Guidance Unit of the University of Peradeniya, in collaboration with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, successfully concluded the Inter-University Financial Literacy Quiz Competition 2026 on 7th July 2026 at the Department of Statistics and Computer Science, University of Peradeniya. The competition brought together talented student teams representing 12 state universities across Sri Lanka. The participants demonstrated their knowledge, teamwork, and competitive spirit through 06 exciting rounds, covering a wide range of financial literacy and finance-related topics. We are delighted to congratulate the winning universities: 🥇 Champions – University of Sri Jayewardenepura 🥈 First Runner-Up – University of Colombo 🥉 Second Runner-Up –University of Moratuwa The occasion was honoured by the presence of the Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya; the President and CEO of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, Quiz Master Dr. Ashvini Amarasinghe; distinguished guests, university representatives, staff members, and students. WSAP (MMF) Phase IV Awarding Ceremony 2026
The WSAP (MMF) Phase IV Awarding Ceremony 2026 was successfully held on 15th May 2026 at 1.00 p.m. at the Senate Room, University of Peradeniya. The ceremony marked the awarding of traineeship letters to students selected for the Working Students Assistantship Programme (WSAP) under the sponsorship of the Mosvold Martinus Foundation (MMF). The event was graced by the presence of the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor, and officials from the Mosvold Martinus Foundation. This programme provides valuable opportunities for students to gain practical work experience, develop professional competencies, and contribute to university activities while pursuing their academic studies. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Mosvold Martinus Foundation for its generous support and commitment to student development and Students Services Division of University of Peradeniya. Congratulations to all selected students, and we wish them a successful and rewarding traineeship experience.
Certificate Awarding Ceremony – 2026
The Career Guidance Unit of the University of Peradeniya successfully conducted the Certificate Awarding Ceremony 2026 on 13th May 2026 at the Senate Room, Senate Building. The ceremony recognized undergraduates who successfully completed the Personal and Social Skills Development (PSSD) Programme, Chinese Language Course, and Microsoft Office Essentials Programme. The event was graced by Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Ranjith Pallegama as the Chief Guest, along with distinguished academics, programme coordinators, and university officials. The Career Guidance Unit extends its sincere appreciation to all partners, resource persons, coordinators, staff members, and students whose dedication and commitment contributed to the success of these programmes. Special gratitude is extended to the TTESC Management Team and Chengdu Textile College, China, for their support in conducting the Chinese Language Programme, and to the Information and Technology Centre for its contribution to the Microsoft Office Essentials Programme. Congratulations to all certificate recipients on their achievement. We wish them every success in their future academic, personal, and professional endeavors.
GUEST TALK - Learn From the Best
The Career Guidance Unit of the University of Peradeniya successfully conducted a Special Guest Talk & Educational Guidance Programme on 6 February 2026, from 10.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., at Geography Theatre, at the University of Peradeniya. The programme featured Dr. Duminda Silva (DFCC Bank PLC) and Mr. Dhanika Perera (CEO – Bhasha), who shared valuable insights on education, business, branding, and career development. The DFCC Bank HR team also participated, offering guidance on internship and job opportunities. We sincerely thank Spectrum Overseas Education Consultancy, and all students who supported the successful completion of this programme.
Outbound Training (OBT) Program – Faculty of Dental Sciences (1st Year New Intake)
The Career Guidance Unit successfully conducted a two-day Outbound Training (OBT) program on 11th and 12th November 2025 at the University Rugby Ground for the newly enrolled first-year students of the Faculty of Dental Sciences. This OBT program focused on enhancing teamwork, leadership, communication skills, problem-solving, and confidence through a series of engaging outdoor activities and group challenges. The students participated with great enthusiasm, making the sessions both energetic and impactful. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Faculty of Dental Sciences for partnering with us and to everyone who contributed to making this event a success. Awareness Session on Government Competitive Examinations
The Career Guidance Unit (CGU), University of Peradeniya, in collaboration with the Chief Secretary’s Office – Central Province, successfully conducted an Awareness Session on Government Competitive Examinations on 16th October 2025 at the CGU Seminar Room. The session aimed to enhance undergraduates’ understanding of career opportunities in the Sri Lankan public sector, focusing on major executive services such as SLAS, SLEAS, SLPS, and SLSS. Distinguished resource persons representing key administrative services shared their insights on the scope, responsibilities, and examination processes, while also guiding students on effective preparation strategies. The interactive panel discussion that followed allowed students from all nine faculties to engage directly with the speakers, making the session both informative and inspiring. A heartfelt thank you to all the resource persons for their valuable contributions and to the enthusiastic undergraduates who participated.
Interfaculty Financial Literacy Quiz Competition 2025
The Career Guidance Unit of the University of Peradeniya, in collaboration with the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka (IBSL), proudly hosted the Interfaculty Financial Literacy Quiz Competition for Undergraduates on 3rd September 2025 at the Auditorium, Department of Statistics & Computer Science. With the participation of 27 teams from 9 Faculties, the competition featured 7 thought-provoking rounds covering banking, finance, economics, general knowledge, and the proud heritage of the University of Peradeniya. From intense battles of knowledge to moments of teamwork and celebration, this event brought together the brightest young minds of the University, building confidence, collaboration, and financial literacy skills for the future.
"USBus"-Skill Development Program.
Sarvodaya Fusion, together with the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka and the University of Peradeniya Career Guidance Unit, is bringing the USBus – Mobile American Space to our university! This exciting initiative will feature leadership programs, STEM activities, American English learning sessions, entrepreneurship guidance, the USBus Booth on 26th & 27th of August 2025 from 9.00am to 3.00pm at Auditorium, New Library Building, University of Peradeniya.
Brain into Business – Upadhidari Vyavasaya Udanaya Three-Day Entrepreneurship Workshop
The Career Guidance Unit, in collaboration with National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA), successfully conducted the Brain into Business workshop for undergraduates and recent graduates. Held at the WUS Building, the three-day programme focused on entrepreneurial motivation, branding, business planning, and financial strategy. WSAP MMF III Traineeship Awarding Ceremony
The Career Guidance Unit of the University of Peradeniya successfully concluded the Working Students’ Assistantship Program (WSAP) – Phase III Traineeship Awarding Ceremony on 4th June 2025 at the Senate Room. The event was graced by the presence of the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Chairman, and representatives of the Mosvold-Martinus Foundation, and the Director, Career Guidance Unit, celebrating the dedication and potential of the selected student trainees. The WSAP MMF initiative, supported by the Mosvold-Martinus Foundation, continues to empower financially disadvantaged undergraduates by offering meaningful work opportunities on campus to build their professional skills and support their academic journey. This initiative is carried out by the Career Guidance Unit in collaboration with the Student Services Division of the University of Peradeniya.
Rover Scout Enrollment Ceremony - University of Peradeniya
The Rover Scout Enrollment Ceremony was successfully held on April 11, 2025, at the University of Peradeniya, marking a significant milestone in introducing the Rover Scouting Movement to the university. A total of 51 undergraduate students were formally enrolled into the Rover Scouting Movement after completing six months of structured scouting activities and leadership training. This initiative was organized by the Career Guidance Unit in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Scout Association. The event was honored by the presence of Professor Ranjith Pallegama, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, as the Chief Guest. Professor Dileep de Silva, Director of the Career Guidance Unit, also participated as a guest. Representing the Sri Lanka Scout Association were Mr. Srilath Silva, Assistant Chief Commissioner Rover Scouting; Mr. Indika Prasanna, Assistant Headquarters Commissioner; and Mr. Saliya Prasad Dahanayake, Assistant District Commissioner Rover Scouts and International Affairs. Ms. Sumudu Lankathilake, Career Counsellor and Rover Scout In-Charge at the University of Peradeniya, played a pivotal role in guiding and coordinating the program. This ceremony marks the beginning of a new chapter in empowering undergraduates through scouting values, leadership development, community service, and personal growth.
CGU Awards 2025
The Career Guidance Unit, University of Peradeniya, successfully hosted the CGU Awards 2025 on March 5th at the Diamond Jubilee Hall, recognizing the outstanding achievements of our undergraduates. This prestigious event honored students who excelled in career-enhancing certification programs and entrepreneurial initiatives, empowering them for future success. We were privileged to have the Vice-Chancellor as the Chief Guest, along with esteemed faculty members, industry partners, and well-wishers. Special appreciation to our partners—National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA), Information Technology Center (ITC), and American Corner—for collaborating with CGU to deliver impactful programs. The event was made possible by the dedication of our organizing committee, CGU staff, WSAP trainees, and student societies like WeLead and Wellness Circle.
